Some people walk into a room and the room changes. Dr. Diana Monea is one of them, and now there’s a short documentary about her.
Legacy of a Butterfly is an official selection of the Regina International Film Festival and Awards, where it gets its first screening anywhere this August, running August 12 to 16. LHI Productions announced it on July 20, and the film comes from Calgary director Monique Barrie.
A life with a lot of chapters
The project page describes Monea as one of Alberta’s longest-practicing female optometrists. She went from a Saskatchewan farm to a fashion-forward doctor, mentor and philanthropist, and the film follows a life of resilience, reinvention and unapologetic self-expression. If you’ve met her, you know that last part is the understatement of the year.
Barrie, Ana Malick, Griffin Cork, Morgan Ermter and Josef Wright are credited on the post-production crew. We wrote about the Regina lineup when the festival got going, in our post on the Calgary optometrist film that made the cut, and we’ll be keeping track of where it plays next on the LHI Productions Instagram.
